Bootstrap Learning

[ Overview ]

Overview:

The Bootstrap Learning (BL) project, part of a DARPA project with the same name, offers a new perspective on machine learning, emphasizing the importance of communication between the learner and the teacher throughout the learning process. This approach can be intuitively explained in terms of human learning processes in which given a communication protocol between the student and the teacher (such as a lecture), learning is done by communicating knowledge from the teacher to the student.

In practice, knowledge is communicated to the learner using several methods, each capturing a different aspect of the natural communication process between a teacher and a student. In these settings the importance of Learning by Telling method is clear, as it provides a natural basis for communication. The learner is presented with straight- forward instructions describing desired behavior or restricting it.
